BEEBE, Ark. – Wildlife officials are trying to determine what caused more than 1,000 blackbirds to die and fall from the sky over an Arkansas town.
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said Saturday that it began receiving reports about the dead birds about 11:30 p.m. the previous night. The birds fell over a 1-mile area of Beebe, and an aerial survey indicated that no other dead birds were found outside of that area.
Commission ornithologist Karen Rowe said the birds showed physical trauma, and she speculated that "the flock could have been hit by lightning or high-altitude hail."

The commission said that New Year's Eve revelers shooting off fireworks in the area could have startled the birds from their roost and caused them to die from stress.
Robby King, a wildlife officer for the agency, collected about 65 dead birds, which will be sent for testing to the state Livestock and Poultry Commission lab and the National Wildlife Health Center lab in Madison, Wis.
Rowe said that similar events have occurred elsewhere and that test results "usually were inconclusive." She said she doubted the birds were poisoned.

Shortly before midnight on Tuesday, residents found 50 to 100 jackdaws on a street in Falköping southeast of Skövde. The incident echoed a number of unexplained incidents earlier this week across the southern US.
On New Year's Eve, an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 blackbirds tumbled from the sky on an Arkansas town shortly before midnight on New Year's Eve.
Separately, 500 birds plummeted to the ground 580 kilometres away in Louisiana on Monday and a Kentucky woman reported finding dozens of dead birds in her yard.
Speculation on the causes of the US bird deaths has ranged from fireworks, the weather, noxious fumes or a "sonic boom."
In addition, up to 100,000 dead and dying drum fish have washed up in the Arkansas River and tens of thousands of dead fish have been found in the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.
I still think it's some type of Military Testing.
jj, these occurrences are too weird! Last week, a friend & his father saw weird lights zippying across the sky. The lights did NOT follow a typical flight pattern. They saw two lights come in from different directions, hover, zip across the sky then disappear! Several days later, saw the news about the dead birds falling from the sky!
I agree with you but I'm going to speculate a little further. It could be military testing of extra terrestrial technology AND the military does know or care WTF their doing!
These incidences remind me to live for today, be happy & LOVE my family & friends EVERY SINGLE DAY!
if any of us didn't have a birth certificate or social security card you wouldn't have to agree to the contract that comes with them both and the state wouldn't be able to intervene with anything true born Americans have more rights than you think. don't agree to be a corporation by the birth certificate and social security card
