Researchers have revived the Ebola Virus using Cloned DNA
Interesting. Back in 2007, researchers have boasted how they revive the deadly and contagious Ebola virus using DNA.
Fast forward to 2012 and guess what? There is an Ebola Virus breakout in Ughanda.

THE INVENTION
Kawaoka and his colleagues have now developed a reverse genetics approach for generating Ebola virus entirely from cloned cDNA. They prepared the full Ebola genome through reverse transcription of viral RNA, followed by PCR amplification and cloning of Ebola cDNA. They then successfully produced infectious viral particles by transfecting host cells with plasmids carrying Ebola cDNA, along with plasmids expressing Ebola proteins L, NP, VP30 and VP35 (needed for transcription and replication of negative strand RNA viruses), and one encoding the T7 RNA polymerase.
The researchers also used the system to make mutant virus particles containing an altered furin recognition motif. Furin cleaves Ebola virus glycoprotein at a highly conserved sequence motif, an event hypothesized to be critical to viral pathogenicity. However, viral
particles carrying the altered motif still showed pathogenicity and ability to replicate in culture. This result illustrates the system’s utility for hastening our understanding of the Ebola virus life cycle and the development of anti-viral agents.

Thousands of Protestors in China successfully forces Chinese authorities to scrap a waste project plant in China. Protestors are seen flipping cars and destroying property. No one was injured. A far cry from what happened in Tienanmen Square.

London 2012 Opening Ceremony a HUGE let down
I just watched the London Olympic Opening Ceremony Live via stream. Let's just say it was the most uninspiring performance I have ever witnessed.
For an event that only takes place once every 4 years, you would think the hosting City / Country would do something to make it memorable.
I understand that Beijing set the bar a little too high. No one can top what Beijing did in 2008. But, what London did just 2 hours ago was a crime against Humanity.
They should be banned from all future Olympic Hosting. The really spent 15 billion on this? I guess the producers pocketed 14.5 billion?
The message was clear. If someone puts on an amazing show, don't try to top it. No point in trying. Just give up and put your head down in shame.
Everything was just dark and gloomy. The performers themselves looked bored to death.
I just watched it an hour ago and can't remember what I just watched. Can anyone name one thing that was spectacular about the opening ceremony? They are claiming how London's opening ceremony would be more "personable", but let me ask you this. What's more personable? Being bored to death or being wowed and entertained.
I understand China did some CGI work for their "firework" show, maybe London should have just CGI the entire event.

Never Forget 6/8/67
Israel attacked the USS Liberty, shooting down the ship's radio equipment while jamming the radio frequencies the USS Liberty would have used to call for help. At the same time, Israel claimed that Egypt was attacking the US ship.
A nuclear-armed strike was in the air on the way to Cairo when the USS Liberty, using a jury-rigged radio antenna, finally got the word out as to the real identity of the ship's attackers. The strike against Cairo was aborted and the official myth of "mistaken identity" was ordered by Israel. The Presbyterian General Assembly voted 333-331, with two abstentions, to reject the divestment plan. A second vote instead affirmed a policy of investment in support of peace in Israel and the Palestinian territories. That proposal passed by a much wider margin, 369-290 with eight abstentions.
The votes came after days of discussion and more than two hours of floor debate at the meeting of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in Pittsburgh. The policymaking body will meet again on Friday, but there is little chance the divestment plan could be revived.
Divestment advocates said the targeted companies - Caterpillar Inc., Hewlett-Packard Co. and Motorola - profit from the occupation by providing bulldozers, surveillance technology and other products to the Israeli military.
